Not being one to be near the water & not get a line wet, I grabbed the spinning rod from the back of my SUV and tossed out a rooster tail. After catching & releasing a few stockies - nothing to write home about - I caught this guy, (chub, shiner, whatever....) that actually put up a better fight than the trout did. Usually don't catch these unless it's the summer so I was kinda surprised to not see a trout on the end of the line when I reeled it in.
Yeah, not the pretty little brown trout you usually see on here, but I figured this "trash fish" deserved its share of the spotlight today.

Mike, That looks like a white sucker, or a Shorthead Redhorse. but I cant see the mouth that great.

ReplyDeleteMichael, agree with the other guys. Some sort of Chub. In the end, isn't it the take and the ensuing fight we look forward to. Spin or fly, whatever type of fish, doesn't matter.

Yup I normally only see those in the hot part of the summer. I hate those things. Ugly, rubber feeling... as somebody above posted, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"... not my eye! =)

ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd add my two cents on its ID. I enjoy catching a little variety when I'm fishing... especially when you know it's a wild fish that wasn't stocked... that adds a little to its value for me. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
