April 13th, 2008 - Darby Creek (Again)

Well two weeks ago (April 5th) I did some fishing in Skippack Creek & Stony Creek, but didn't have much luck - so this past weekend I hit Darby Creek again. To my surprise, not a whole lot of folks on the creek. I suppose since the "opening" of the season was two weeks ago, traffic on the water has somewhat died down.

Was great just to get out for a few hours, enjoy some peace and quiet on the water, and not have to worry about getting in somebody else's way. I waded approximately 150-200 yards of the creek, slowly working the transitions - focused on still pools of water & areas downstream of riffles. Tossed inline spinners on ultralight tackle, working across & with current. I tried out a new lure that I picked up at Cabela's the day before, a Joe's Flies "Joe's Special" spinner w/ gold blade and found it to be very productive.

In all, it was a pretty good morning, a little on the cold side (45 degrees & overcast), and I only really fished for about 2 & a half hours but reeled in (& released) about a half dozen trout.

Opening Day For Trout

March 31st was the opening day of Trout season in SE Pennsylvania. Hit Darby Creek in Delaware County with Len, MJM III, & Cuz. It always makes for a good excuse to get together and see each other again.

It was a brisk 35 degrees - certainly not freezing - but not too warm either when you're wading in waist high water. Anyway, fishing started at 8AM, and we all saw some nice action. I stuck to using inline spinners (Mepps XDs, Fish Creek Armadillos, & Weaver Lures), while my buddies varied their approach on the more "natural side"; corn, wax worms, etc...

A good time was had by all, we talked about old times and for the most part caught our limits but alas, forgot to bring my camera so no pics this time. Probably for the better - none of us caught any trophies, but a handful of nice chunky 'bows were thrown in the makeshift Boathouse "creel" for MJM's freezer. It's the only day of the season I keep them, after opening day, they all go back in the water for others to enjoy.

Boca Canal Fishing

It's mid-June and unfortunately I've only got on/in/next to the water three times with a rod & reel so far. Ouch!

Darby Creek - Opening day of PA Trout Season (with Mutt J. Mutt III, star of the 6AM land grab). Somewhat fun, but quite chilly. Caught a few trout on Panther Martin spinners, but nothing to brag about. Wished more of my D-Squad brethren could have made it, but between warmth/sleep and family responsibilities, I guess it was not in the cards this year

Norristown Farm Park - nothing, nada, no luck whatsoever - more of a farewell trip than a fishing trip anyway. I used to be able to roll out of bed and go fishing in N'Town, I lived across the street. But now I live in Limerick, and my beloved Stony Creek is now a bit of a hike.

Boca Raton - K.C., Lilly, & I visited Gary & Lorraine towards the end of May. Whenever I go, I do a little fishing in the canal to kill some time. I caught a nice amount of Bream on a trusty Mepps Agila and even K.C. got into the act with her Zebco and some bread crumbs as bait.
